Mariam Kilpatrick - SPecialist women’s health Physiotherapist & Clinical Pilates Instructor

Mariam’s clinical pilates class has been essential for my recovery from a serious back injury. Through managing my initial pain to the final stages of rehab, Mariam was always friendly, kind, knowledgeable, and provided the right level of challenge to help me develop as well as I could. I feel great now, and it’s almost a shame that I don’t have to go back!

I’ve been seeing Mariam for lower back and hip problem when required for some time now and she has never failed to get me moving again. She is a great physio and I have recommended her more than once.
Five stars, excellent.

Services Provided: Women’s Health Physiotherapy,

Physiotherapy, Dry-needling, Clinical Pilates, Ante and Postnatal Pilates

How long have you been practising?: Since 2007

Please explain the service you provide in your own words:  Since becoming a mum in 2017, I developed a keen interest in treating ante- and post-natal women and have completed extensive training in this area to become a specialist women’s health physiotherapist, to help support women through pregnancy, childbirth and beyond. My own love for running means I also have a passion for helping new mothers return safely back to running/fitness/sport after having a baby.

As well as women’s health, I am also a musculoskeletal physiotherapist treating clients ranging from high-level athletes to people who have suffered every day or work-related injuries. I've completed my training in Clinical Pilates, using it as a successful rehabilitative tool in my practice.

What's the best thing about doing what you do?: I enjoy the challenge of being able to problem solve when diagnosing and treating injuries. I have great satisfaction in helping a person achieve their goals whether it be to return to sport or return to their everyday activities.

What excites you about working at Physio Effect?: I am able to work with an excellent team of people with a wide range of knowledge and skills.

What are your dreams for your service within the company in the next year or so?: Developing the Women’s Health physiotherapy service along side the Glasgow Running Clinic to create a specialised postpartum return to running service.

Outside of being a physiotherapist, what do you enjoy doing? Being a mum keeps me busy but I love the outdoors and exploring the country with my family in our campervan. My love for the outdoors and the mountains of Scotland has seen me take up hill and trail-running as my main past-time and have completed several sky-running and ultra-marathon events around Scotland. Most recently I ran the 96-mile West Highland Way in a day.
