Comprehensive, Safe, and Expert-Led Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation
Pelvic floor issues like leaking when you cough, a persistent feeling of "heaviness," or postpartum back pain are incredibly common—but they are not something you simply have to live with. While these symptoms have become normalized, they are not normal. At Physio Effect, our specialist Women’s Pelvic Health team, led by Mariam Kilpatrick and Jenny Devlin, provides a safe, discrete, and highly professional environment. Our team can help with pelvic floor issues such as incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and pelvic pain.
We combine advanced musculoskeletal (MSK) knowledge with specialised pelvic floor training to help you take back control, restore confidence, and safely return to the activities and sports you love without the fear of symptoms.
No Referral Needed: You can book directly with our female specialists at our private clinic space located within the Everyday Athlete (EDA) Gym, just off the M8.
Our Specialist Women's Pelvic Health Services:
- Pelvic Floor Assessment & Dysfunction Treatment
Pelvic Health Assessment
Chronic pelvic floor issues can arise at any stage of life — you do not need to have had a baby to benefit from an evaluation. We offer comprehensive internal pelvic examinations to accurately assess muscle strength, tone, coordination, and tissue support.
Conditions Treated: Stress Urinary Incontinence (leaking when running or coughing), Urge Incontinence (overactive bladder), pelvic organ prolapse (POP), and pelvic pain or muscle tension contributing to painful intercourse (Dyspareunia).
Cube Pessaries for pelvic organ prolapse
Physio Effect is one of the few private clinics in Glasgow featuring two specialist-trained physiotherapists certified to fit and manage Cube Pessaries for the non-surgical control of Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP). This treatment provides immediate mechanical support, helping you manage symptoms and stay active while rebuilding your core strength.
If you feel this treatment may be appropriate for you then please contact us with any specific questions you may have or continue and book for your pelvic health assessment
Physiotherapy for Pregnancy
Pregnancy places immense mechanical demands on your body. We provide specialist care to alleviate discomfort, keep you safely active through every trimester, and help you prepare your pelvic floor for childbirth.
Conditions Treated: Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP), Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD), and pregnancy-related lower back or sacroiliac (SIJ) joint pain.
We also offer Pregnancy Pilates classes, a physiotherapist-led Pilates class tailored to your trimester in pregnancy.
Crybaby Postnatal Pilates Class
Whether your baby is 6 weeks, 6 years, or 30 years old, there is no time limit on postnatal recovery. Our specialised postpartum assessments look at the body as a whole to ensure your alignment and core are functioning correctly.
What we treat: Diastasis Recti (abdominal separation or "mum-tum"), pelvic floor weakness, pelvic organ prolapse (POP), coccyx/tailbone pain, and safe postnatal return-to-run coaching.
We also have the "Crybaby Pilates" class which is our very popular postnatal Pilates rehab class aiming to help rebuild and strengthen the body after pregnancy and childbirth
What to Expect During Your Appointment:
We understand that seeking help for pelvic health can feel daunting. Your comfort, privacy, and absolute consent guide everything we do.
The Consultation: Your appointment takes place in a completely private, safe, and supportive treatment room. Your therapist will take a detailed history of your symptoms, bladder/bowel habits, and lifestyle goals.
The Physical Assessment: This typically involves looking at your posture, pelvic alignment, and core stability (such as how your body moves during a squat).
Internal Examination: If clinically indicated, a gentle digital vaginal examination will be recommended to evaluate your pelvic floor muscles directly. Your therapist will explain the process completely beforehand—your consent can be withdrawn at any time, and external-only tracking options are always available.

From Rehabilitation to High Performance
What sets Physio Effect apart is our "Pain to Performance" philosophy. Once your acute pelvic health symptoms are managed, we don't stop there.
We seamlessly transition your care into our Physio-Led Clinical Pilates studio or utilise the strength and conditioning equipment within the Everyday Athlete (EDA) Gym. This ensures you build the functional resilience required to safely return to running, heavy lifting, or CrossFit long-term.
Pelvic Health FAQs
-
No, you do not require a referral from a GP or consultant. You can book directly with the female specialist team at Physio Effect for a completely private, confidential assessment of pelvic floor issues, incontinence, prolapse, or pelvic pain.
-
Your initial session is highly personalized and completely confidential. It begins with a detailed discussion regarding your symptoms, bladder/bowel habits, and medical history. A physical assessment of your posture, core, and hip mechanics is typically followed by a recommendation for an internal pelvic floor examination. This internal check is completely optional, guided entirely by your comfort, and only performed with your explicit, ongoing consent.
-
Yes. Chronic pelvic pain, overactive or tight pelvic floor muscles, and tissue restrictions can significantly contribute to painful sex (Dyspareunia). Our specialist physiotherapists use gentle manual therapy, muscle relaxation techniques, and specialized education to reduce tension and eliminate pain within a discrete, supportive, and clinical environment
-
We provide specialist care at any stage of your journey. If you are pregnant, you can attend at any trimester to manage pelvic girdle pain (PGP) or prepare your pelvic floor for birth. For postnatal clients, we highly recommend booking a post-natal assessment from 6 weeks postpartum onwards, though we regularly treat women who are months or even years into their postpartum journey.
-
Yes, absolutely. We completely understand the childcare challenges that come with having a newborn or toddler. You are more than welcome to bring your baby along to any prenatal or postnatal appointment. Our private treatment rooms have plenty of space for a pram, and your therapist will completely adapt the pace of the session to ensure you and your baby feel comfortable and relaxed.

Standard musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy focuses on external joints, muscles, and ligaments (like back or hip pain). Pelvic Health Physiotherapy requires advanced, postgraduate clinical training to specialize in the internal muscle layers of the pelvic floor. At Physio Effect, our unique advantage is that our specialists are dually trained in both MSK rehab and Pelvic Health, allowing us to treat your core, pelvis, and limbs as an interconnected system.
